Choosing Linens

One of the easiest ways to personalize your wedding reception is with linens. With a wide variety of colors and styles, there is something for every taste and budget. When considering specialized linens, here are some things to keep in mind.

Size matters. To have linens go to the floor, you first need to determine your table size.

  • A 72" table requires a 132" linen (seats 10-12)
  • A 60" table requires a 120" linen (seats 8-10)
  • A 48" table requires a 108" linen (seats 6)
  • Rectangle tables require a drop over

Linens do not need to be satin, although most are. For a little variation, consider something with a little texture. Pin tuck, embroidered taffeta and crushed fabric are just a few of the choices available. Try combining any of these over basic satin linen in a complementary color for a look as unique as you are.

Another option to consider is overlays. Available in satin stripes, organza and other fabrics, overlays are generally shorter than floor length linens that can add drama.

Want a custom look on a smaller budget? Consider sashes. Two sashes (available in a variety of materials) criss-crossed over a white satin linen can be striking. Use more of the same sashes as chair ties for a coordinated look.

When it comes to the chairs, you can get complete chair covers that look lovely on their own or add a sash tied in a decorative knot.

Many venues can help you coordinate your specialty linens. If your venue doesn’t there are a number of excellent decorating and rental companies ready to help. Make an appointment to visit their showrooms and you’ll come away with great ideas and a beautiful reception that is uniquely you.
