3 Tips on Choosing Your Perfect Wedding Day Photographer

Your wedding day will go by fast and the pictures will be the only thing that can take you back and help you remember. Memories fade with age, but pictures can always bring you back to that sweet time you said ” I do!!! ”
We went to the experts for tips on how to find a photographer you click with. Twinty Photography, Tiffany Hofeldt Photography and The Mill Photography Studio were not shy about giving their tips and tricks on landing the perfect photographer. These experts were honest and real, and we ate up every word they said. Here are the top three things our photographers said about finding your dream photographer.

Make Sure You are Comfortable With Your Photographer

The number one piece of advice we were given was to make sure you are comfortable with your photographer. This makes total sense when you consider the fact your photographer will be following you around all day. You don’t want to be in the presence of someone all day long who makes you feel uncomfortable. Most photographers like to be hands-on if your veil is twisted or your hair isn’t tucked in one spot they are going to fix it! If you feel awkward with someone then chances are you don’t want them touching you. One of our photographers even said that it would be a good idea to meet for coffee just to chat before choosing to hire a photographer. Or you could even chat with your potential photographer at our next Bridal Extravaganza! We loved this idea. It’s a great way to make sure you mesh well with your potential photographer and that the conversation flows easily.

Look Through Several Albums of Weddings They Have Shot

When choosing a photographer it’s important that you ask to look through several albums of weddings they have shot. A lot of times the photos that you see on their website are their best shots, but you want to check out the photos of all the details and all the candid shots!

  • Be sure to look through the WHOLE album. This is the only way you can be sure you are actually getting what you want.
  • Make sure that the photographer’s style matches yours. If your wedding is going to be bohemian but your photographer has only shot modern themed weddings, then how do you know they can capture what you really want?
  • Lastly, keep in mind what your wedding scenery will be like. If your wedding is going to be outside in a field, then don’t look at photos of a wedding that took place in a dark church.

Hire an Experienced Photographer

Wedding photos are special. They are a forever keepsake for you to look back at one of the best days of your life. It’s not the best idea to hire that friend who just started their photography business, because you will be disappointed. You don’t want to be someone’s guinea pig for the most important pictures of your life. Anyone can take a good picture that is posed and in the perfect lighting. But what about the candids? You want that good candid picture of your grandmother dancing. You want to hire a photographer who can handle anything. An expert photographer has a certain eye for things and should be able to discern if certain items in the background of a shot make the picture look unflattering. If you’re trying to decide what to spend a good chunk of your money on for your wedding day, photographers are definitely a must!
