Our Story
I’m so glad we both swiped right! Saul and I met on an online dating app called Bumble, on June 17, 2017. Thank goodness it isn’t as taboo to meet someone like this these days, but still, I was a little apprehensive at first to tell people. But now looking at it all I love how our story began.
Saul and I have been dating for 5.5 years and have two fur babies that are spoiled rotten, Hunter and Charlie. (on a fun note, our signature wedding drink was - Mutt-A-Rita). Before I get ahead of myself let me tell you how we met.
Our first date was amazing, fun, and not what I expected! I was super nervous about meeting Saul for the very first time as I was running 2 hours behind and already knew my first impression wasn’t going to be the greatest for making him wait. As soon as I showed up, I saw this tall, dark, and handsome guy in a black shirt and thought to myself dang-it Danielle, why were you so late? I thought maybe he had waited just a little while since I had texted him prior that I was going to be late. NOPE, poor Saul waited the whole time in the hot summer sun for me. By the time I got there the ice cream festival, downtown was already over, and I was really bummed. I asked if he knew of any good places around here to eat. Sure, enough Saul was familiar with downtown and asked if I ever tried The Cove. This is where we finally got to get to know each other a little better. We parked our cars at the Pearl and walked the long mile, stopping at other spots along the Riverwalk. I didn’t want the night to end but it was already 11 pm (the date started at 2 pm). We decided to part ways as he walked me back to my car, hugged and said we’d plan for our next date soon.
I’ve never left a date wanting to see the person right away. He made me feel that way. I may have been a little crazy, but I texted him that night asking when the next time I could see him was. We ended up having dates #2 and 3 within the same week. It’s weird cause after leaving him I always missed him right after. I still feel this way to this day. At work, I’ll be thinking about him and miss him.
We officially started dating on July 4, 2017. After coming home from a fireworks show, Saul asked me “what are we doing?” We just got back to his apartment, so I answered we can relax and then get food. Apparently, that wasn’t the question he was asking. He was like no I mean what are we doing? Still not understanding the question I ask, “what do you mean”? He then asks if I would like to be his girlfriend!!
The downtown area of San Antonio quickly became our hot spot. This is where many memories have been made.
During a New Year Countdown party, we were surrounded by our friends and yelled the countdown numbers… 10, 9, 8.
As soon as we all yelled Happy New Year Saul looked me straight in the eyes and said I love you. I said I love you back immediately as I have been wanting to tell him prior but didn’t want to be the first one. That New Years was one for the books.
In 2020 Saul brought me downtown almost every weekend. I kept thinking why are we coming down here so often? Come to find out I kept ruining the proposal so finally on 01/01/2020 Saul finally had enough waiting and me ruining the moment. We walked down to one area near the river and all I remember saying is let’s go back I need to go to the bathroom. Then all of a sudden, he was down on one knee. Immediately I started balling. As soon as he was done talking, I asked him if he was for real and he said you’re supposed to answer the question. Of course, I said yes! That night we drove to all our family members' houses to tell them that we are engaged!!
We have been married for 1 month now and it has been pure bliss! I wish I could re-live the moment over and over. Seeing Saul’s face as I walked down the aisle was priceless. I was a ball of nerves right before, but seeing him eased that for me. As soon as we said I do it was like all the stress of planning and the anticipation just rolled off my shoulders.
The wedding night flew by so fast that you really have to take it all in. I was able to dance the night away. Literally, as I never left the dance floor and Saul was able to greet guests and join me from time to time.
I look back on our story and am so happy that we both took a chance. That we both decided to meet and he became my person that I love so much!
