Dakota’s Wedding Journey: Part One – Let the dreaming and Planning Begin

Hi, my name is Dakota Kenway and I am the daughter of the owners of the Texas Wedding Guide. I just got proposed to during Christmas of 2023! This means I can officially start planning my wedding with all of our wedding professionals, and show you guys how I use our app and website to make the whole process Seamless. But First I want to share my love story.

Our Love Story

My fiancée and I have been together for a little over four years now. We started dating during my freshman year and his sophomore year of high school when he asked me to be his girlfriend after we went and watched a school play. From that point on he has become my best friend and the most stable thing in my life. I really couldn’t ask for anyone better. He has been there with me through thick and thin and I did the same for him. Despite our youth, we’ve encountered numerous challenges in our relationship. However, we’ve always held onto the belief that as long as we continue to support and stand by each other, we can overcome any obstacle together.

We have been in a long-distance relationship for a little over a year and a half because he joined the army right after he graduated. So when my family started planning our big trip to Hawaii and invited him and his family I had a suspicion he would propose during the trip. It also didn’t hurt that he told me a few months before the trip that he bought the ring and it was coming.

I remember being so happy the whole month before the trip and just not wanting to wait to see him. Especially because it has been a few months since we last saw each other. Just seeing him made me feel whole again. It was Christmas night and we went to watch the luau with our whole family when he asked me to marry him. He texted me that he found a good picture spot and to go meet him by the water. When I got over there he and his mom were waiting to “take pictures” and that’s when he got down on one knee.

My First Step Planning Tools

I am lucky enough to know most of the local wedding professionals personally because I work for my parents and the Texas Wedding Guide. But my favorite thing to use is the Texas Weddings App. It has helped me look through all of our vendors and each category that I didn’t think about wanting. It helps me like all my potential wedding vendors, see some pictures, look at reviews, learn a little about their company, see some Real weddings, and get a link to their website and social media platforms. This helps out when I am on the move and want to look at something. It also helps when my friends and family ask to see certain things that are already on the app.

I also really like that we have Special Offers and News & Events on our website. I am actually the one who puts those up on the back end of our website, but it always spikes my interest in learning about discounts on our vendors or new additions to some of the companies. In that same spot, I can see where and when local open houses are, which means I can talk to all the wedding professionals and tour venues without setting up a meeting first.
