Our Story
We met on March 13, 2020, the Friday before San Antonio "shut down" due to Covid. A friend invited me for what I thought was a girls' night at Cowboys Dancehall. She asked some guy friends to join knowing they were good dancers, one of which was Shawn. Despite our 10-year age difference, we connected through our mutual love of Cody Johnson and mud runs. Quarantine was in full effect a few days after, so we didn't have our first "date" until a month later when we met up at a park to walk our dogs, secretly drink beers, and listen to a Cody Johnson Facebook live concert. We "dated" through Covid by cooking wine-paired dinners together, hiking local parks, and flipping a camper. In May '22, Shawn's parents visited from Pennsylvania, and along with my mom, we all went to dinner at our favorite restaurant, La Fonda on Main. As our margaritas arrived at our table on the back corner of the patio, we heard mariachi music. They made their way to our table, the lead singer appearing to be singing directly to me. Not wanting to be rude, I unknowingly left Shawn kneeling behind me for almost the entirety of the song. He finally tapped my shoulder so I would turn around and he could propose. Before Shawn and I met, my mom and I started a small wedding coordinating business, Hill Country Socials. With this training, I had our wedding planned after two weeks of being engaged. With many of our guests coming from out of state, we decided to have a Fiesta-inspired wedding to share the culture of the city we call "home". There is not enough space to list all of the ways I think our wedding was perfect and unique, but I will list a few: all the bright colors, mariachis from America's Got Talent, 20 - 8" wedding cakes as the centerpiece for each table (my mother made them all!), a customized family-style meal by Magnolia, Jarrio's fruit-flavored sodas, beer donkeys, a wedding homily that proved we are made for each other, rehearsal dinner by Chef Brian West, and all of our vendors being friends from the biz.
