Selecting the right DJ is crucial to bringing the right life and energy into your wedding reception. And Groove Line Productions is the perfect choice to make this happen.
We recently spoke to them about their experience in the wedding industry, favorite wedding story and DJ Ptch Blaq’s favorite food dish!
What is your best planning advice or tip for couples?
Your music should tell your story and should share your vibe with your guests. Starting from pre-ceremony through your entire day, your guests should hear bits of you through the speakers bringing them memories of your times together or just smiles to their faces.
Whether traditional, modern or contemporary your pre-ceremony can include your favorite genres… we love playing the instrumental versions of different artists showing another side of music! Cocktail hour.. although you most likely won’t be there the full time or even any (because you’re hanging with the photographer!) your guest should hear a medley of genres and vibes that not only entertains them as they socialize but reminds them of you and builds the anticipation of when you join them in reception. And the vibe continues in more of an upbeat manner into dinner until we open the dance floor. Music is personal, and it can tell your story. Share who you are with your DJ, let them get to know you more than just a questionnaire so they can be your storyteller at your celebration and your dance floor engineer!
Are you married? Do you have children? Tell us about your family.
Groove Line Productions, Mobile DJ Service is owned and operated by James & Trelawny Bullock – married and each the other’s better half! We do have kids and … grandkids! We’re blessed to have an amazing blended family and to enjoy this part of our lives doing what we love and sharing our passion not only with our clients but with our family. We bring family owned & operated to the test as we walk it out every day; our team are extended family and some of our kids and grandkids help in different aspects whether in the office, at bridal shows or in the recording studio – FAMILY is GROOVY and the most important part of our lives. Loving what we do, sharing it those we love & working with amazing clients who also love music is what makes this family business GROOVY!
Are you a foodie? What’s your go-to dish?
DJ Ptch Blaq is a HUGE fan of spaghetti, sweet tea, and peaches! There you go, want to win over the heart of this DJ serve him kosher spaghetti (pork-free) and insanely sweet tea with a baseball hard peach for dessert and he’s your new Groovy BFF! Trelawny is a Mexican buff – anything vegetarian and a margarita on the rocks kinda gal. Wanna talk music & have a fun lunch, invite her and just make sure it’s vegetarian friendly with really good salsa!
What made you get into the wedding & events industry? How many years have you been in it?
DJ Ptch Blaq started Groove Line Productions, Mobile DJ Service to share his love of music with others; to expand outside of working in the recording studio, and to see the joy music can bring to people firsthand at events and weddings. The decision was a work in progress as he was still active military as the company formed in 2017 and could only support events on a part-time basis. As he made the choice to retire at almost 24 years of service and to follow his dream of music full-time he found himself booking up as a DJ quickly; he and Trelawny opened up full-time 2018. She left her position to focus full-time on Groove Line Productions, Events, and Clients, by 2019 they have begun building a small family team of DJs and Assistants and continue to grow as a niche boutique today!
What is one favorite client story and why?
A bitter-sweet favorite client story for James & Trelawny; we served as the music & lighting team for an amazing young couple who were on fire for life. They were so much fun to plan music & lighting with, we had the best time at their wedding and their guests filled the dance floor all night. We decided to capture some of their day and to share a special memory video from the music perspective allowing the songs to share the story… we received a heartfelt note of gratitude from the couple shortly after we shared this private video to them. Apparently, our video gift featured a dear friend of theirs who only days after their wedding deceased, and our video was one of the last memories they shared with him and they took time to let us know how much this meant to them that we went above and beyond and unknowingly gave them, their guests and the friend’s family a gift to cherish forever for a whole other reason than our intended purpose. While this may be a bittersweet moment, it was such a blessing to know we were used by spirit to give our clients a gift that could bring them joy in various forms and a reminder at how precious we all are and how we can all do something to lift each other up with simple acts of kindness and love. This is part of why we do what we do!
