Nothing sets the stage better for your wedding ceremony and reception than a beautiful string ensemble.
We recently spoke with Carrie Miller, owner and cellist of Hyde Park Strings. We talked about why she started her business, what she loves about doing weddings and her favorite hilarious wedding story!
What services do you provide?
We offer a variety of ensembles- from string duo, to quartet, to a small orchestra, we have the perfect fit for your event.
Why do you love this company and your job?
I love owning my own company in the city I grew up in! Hyde Park Strings consists of a small core of professionals musicians who are interchangeable each week- They are members of the Austin Symphony, Austin Lyric Opera, Temple Symphony, and Mid-TX Symphony. In addition to being amazing musicians, they are wonderful friends who enjoy making people happy with our music as much as I do!
What made you get into the wedding & events industry? How many years have you been in it?
I played for lots of weddings while getting my Bachelor’s in Music Education and Master’s in Cello Performance from The University of Texas at Austin, which led naturally to me wanting to start my own wedding music business. 25 years later, Hyde Park Strings is still bringing joy to couples on their wedding day.
What’s the funniest thing you’ve seen happen at a wedding?
One of the funniest (and sweetest) moments was at an outdoor Austin wedding in the summer. The officiant kept pausing during the ceremony to check with the groom, who looked as if he was going to pass out. The groom did not want to stop the ceremony. But then, the bride sat down – and they continued the ceremony with the entire wedding party sitting on the ground.
What other cities or locations have you worked weddings in?
Hyde Park Strings mainly plays in the greater Austin area, but we play lots of weddings in the Hill Country, and in Dripping Springs, Marble Falls, Wimberley, Kyle and San Marcos areas. We have also performed in Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio.
